Older Samoyeds lose muscle and condition, feel the cold more than they used to, and are slower to loosen up on a chilly morning. If your Samoyed is stiff or sore, that is a veterinary matter first — joint pain in an ageing dog deserves a proper diagnosis and a treatment plan, and a garment is no substitute for either.

What a close-fitting suit does well is retain body warmth. A senior Samoyed that has been lying on a cold floor or standing in the yard on a raw day stays warmer under a layer that holds heat close to the skin, and warm muscles are more comfortable muscles. The even pressure of graduated compression also gives the steady deep-pressure input that many dogs find settling during long periods of rest.

Used alongside whatever your vet has recommended — medication, weight management, controlled exercise, a warm bed out of draughts — a suit is one more way to keep an old dog comfortable through the winter.
